The adventures of a Ragnar Lothbrok: the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the saga of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods: legend has it that he was a direct descendant of Odin, the god of war and warriors.
The story of how Ragnar Lothbrok, a Norse farmer with a thirst for exploration, who becomes the king of the northmen. Lothbrok, clouded by ambition and an urge to attain supremacy leads his men and his family to glory in the historic lands of Britain and France.
Yet, everything began well, bleeding Vikings like we love but good family fathers, pretty women, sometimes warriors, a good description of the habitat, the ordinary life, and so on. And catastrophe, the creators began to want to approach religion. Impossible for them, of American culture, to imagine a belief without temples or priests. So they did a great anything on this subject. When you think this show is produced by a channel named History... And if we look at history a bit, we see that kings meet when they have not lived at the same time, that some warriors who attacked Lindisfarne in 793 were in Paris in 885 (beautiful health these guys!). So when characters who have existed marry or betray, contrary to historical reality, we say stop, that's enough! Yes, Ragnar Lothbrock is a legendary character, but when we dress up a legend of an historical coat, we try to do things right, especially when we call History. Ah I forgot, the planned sequences are: Ragnar fights a T-Rex, Ragnar vs Alien, Ragnar and Noddy prepare the Brexit.
It is good to see a show written in a very violent genre that is actually character based. Excellently written and acted.
There are so many potential plots because of the depth of multiple characters. This is the founding of an excellent show with longevity built in.
One of the best shows of the last decade if not more. The lead character is a natural for his role, all the supporting characters have all three dimensions. What more can you ask from a creation than this. I almost hope it does not become too successful and then has to follow predictive scripts. In short this is what Spatacus should have been, even Rome did not quite mange to carry of this much depth with an edge. This is common in English-speaking produced movies and TV shows. Generally the characters speak English when they are talking among themselves. But it's implied they are still speaking their native tongue. The Vikings are generally speaking Icelandic since it is the language closest to Old Norse, the language of the Vikings. They also use some words from Swedish and Danish, though we *hear* it as English. When speaking with foreign characters, such as characters from England, they speak in Icelandic and we see subtitles. This is to show the English characters can't understand them.
Where it gets confusing to some viewers is that the English characters are often speaking Old English when among the Vikings, which can sound very similar to Swedish to an untrained ear. The acting takes place around a lake in Wicklow, Ireland, but some additional photography was taken in Western Norway. Aslaug shows up with her huge dog in the Episode "All Change" S01E09. a5c7b9f00b
